The New York Times
The chief Pentagon official for the military commission system, Susan J. Crawford, intends to announce Friday that charges will be dropped against the leading suspect in the 2000 bombing of the Navy destroyer Cole. The move, first reported by ABC News and confirmed by administration officials, pertains to the death penalty case of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a Saudi charged as the leading architect of the attack that killed 17 American sailors.

“The parents of 17 dead sailors understand we had the process, Mika,” Scarborough said to his co-host, Mika Brzezinski, who was questioning the legal process. “I wonder what President Obama says to the 17 families of these dead soldiers. It seems, Mika, like there is very little to be said.”

Families of Cole Victims Worry White House Meeting Is Window Dressing

President Obama is meeting Friday afternoon with the families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and the bombing of the USS Cole — but some invited guests say they worry that the gesture is window-dressing, since the administration has suspended trials of detainees at Guantanamo Bay and a military judge on Thursday dropped charges against a suspect in the 2000 Cole bombing.

I actually do feel safer. Al-Nashiri isn’t been set loose in Times Square with yellow cake and an Uzi – he’s still in custody and the charges were dropped because he was tortured for over five years at the GuantaniMotel6.

You’ve got to stop jumping to conclusions. Remember, bush/cheney created a huge mess on nearly every front, including their beloved security. America is not safer when it is filling Camp X-Ray and floating prisons with suspects and torturing and killing them. Now we will hold ourselves accountable to bringing justice and not treat our military like players in Halo 3.

For the sake of the country Tom, I hope you’re right. But pardon me for being skeptical.

    Very skeptical.

Perhaps if the President learns his job is to govern and not campaign things will get better.
