I don’t care if the President’s Chief of Protocol is the only Democrat in the nation to have actually paid taxes, they’re not doing the President any favors.

Barack Obama’s gift for the Queen: an iPod, your Majesty
Toby Harnden, Telegraph.co.uk

Barack Obama met the Queen at Buckingham Palace today and gave her a gift of an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 United States visit to Richmond, Jamestown and Williamsburg in Virginia. In return, the Queen gave the President a silver framed signed photograph of herself and the Duke of Edinburgh – apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries.

An iPod for the Queen of England. This following up on the recent DVD debacle with the Prime Minister. What, did the White House stock up at the Circuit City clearance sales?

And as if the iPod wasn’t embarassing enough, consider what was actually loaded onto it:

His own speeches? Just how tacky can you get? Couldn’t he at least have thrown in one of those fake columns from his convention speech?

The Queen and Mrs. Obama: Did the First Lady Break Protocol?
Time Magazine

The rules are set in stone, and so the eagerly watching British media sputtered when the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, briefly put her hand on the back of Queen Elizabeth II as the two chatted at a reception. Etiquette is quite stern about this (“Whatever you do, don’t touch the Queen!”).

Now, I know the President and First Lady are busy people and don’t have time to spend an afternoon wandering around the Mall shopping for foreign dignitaries. They have people for that.

But their people are falling down on the job. The gifts of DVDs and an iPod are a national embarrassment.

You would think that out of the 500 people traveling with him to England (Guardian) that someone would have the presence of mind to say “let’s rethink that.”

Instead it looks like we have a President who does all his Christmas shopping at Wallgreens on Christmas Eve.

Interesting post….you forgot to mention that it appears that the Queen and Michelle Obama appeared to have bonded; they were arm and arm at a reception.

It’s not like he gave a prime minister an unwanted shoulder massage.

    Nobody cares about the queen.

Rustus, a breach of protocol is a breach of protocol, whether it be from a Republican or a Democrat. And millions DO care about the Queen.

Star, see my comment to Rustus. If the Queen initiates the contact, it’s one thing. And she’s gracious enough to let it pass. But had this been Laura Bush the left and the media would be all over it.

well if a breach of protocol is a breach of protocol then we should all thank our lucky stars that the idiot has returned to his Texas village. BG

Ah yes, the “Blame Bush for Everything Syndrome.”

They have a cure for that. I believe the left used to call it “Move On.”
