No… no, I figured it out a long time ago. It’s about Republicans making noise about the spending and nationalization plans of the American Idol administration. And rightfully so. But there’s one big, fat, sticky problem. These same protesters were nowhere to be found when Decider the Clown increased the size, scope of authority, and expense of government.

Now that they’re awake, they want us libertarian types to hitch our little gold wagons to their protests. Or at least some of them do.

The ones who walked around with the big blue arrows that said “Tea party Crasher”, pointing them at Ron Paul Republicans.. not so much. They didn’t want to hear from supporters of the one person in Washington who’s been speaking publicly about the growth of government since the 1970’s, no matter who was in power.

The guy who tried to punch Mike Lowery for wearing a Gadsden Flag t-shirt with Libertarian Party messages on the back… wasn’t all that interested in building an alliance with someone who agreed with him on the issues that were supposed to be the focus of the tea parties. At the very least, he didn’t want to associate with anyone who is unwilling to kid himself that the republicans are just as willing as the dems to spend us all into oblivion.

The people with the signs about abortion, gay marriage and war weren’t nearly as focused on the fiscal issues and undue usurpations of power as they were on regurgitating neocon talking points.

No, brother, I figured out what the tea parties were all about a long time ago. I figured it out just fine. If you republicans want to have yourselves an orgasm, I won’t try to deny you. But don’t ask me to be a part of it.

First Rick, who are you calling “you Republicans?” Granted, you’re absolutely right that it took many of us a long time to wake up. But awake we are, and while I will support Republicans, I no longer classify myself as one.

And you’re right that many just don’t get it. You’re going to have the fringe people and issues in any large group. But perhaps for the first time, the libertarian message may be gaining some real traction.

It remains to see what happens from here. But I wouldn’t be so casual in dismissing the Tea Parties.
