Are you a racist?

19 Sep

Since it seems that the only defense against the Tea Parties, the 9/12 protest and anyone who opposes Obamacare is to call them racist, it’s an appropriate question to ask.

In case you’re confused, MISSOURAH.com developed this handy: Obama Criticism Flow Chart.

It’s sad that this chart is even funny.  Perhaps sadder still that it’s an accurate potrayal of the attitudes of the left and the media.

Racism still exists in this country.  But when the word is tossed about casually it loses both meaning and potency.

As Powerline Blog says I suspect that this is the last time any partisan faction will be able to broadcast the charge of “racism” and have it taken even slightly seriously. The word “racism” used to have a meaning, but no one can remember what it was.

From what I’ve seen, Mike, the word “racism” is little more than a floating abstraction divorced from its meaning and evolving into a buzz word designed to invoke an emotional response.

That’s exactly the point. And it does a disservice to those who historically were, and are, victims of racism.

I agree that the racist label distracts and distorts the issues, but so does threats of “death panels.” What we need is a serious discussion on health care in order to solve the MASSIVE problem that it is today and the bigger problem it is going to be in the future.

My biggest problem with the whole process is that it seems to me that too many politicians are putting their short term political goals ahead of solving long term problems for the country.
