NOW he wants to sit down with the Republicans???

7 Feb

After a year of private, closed door negotations and ignoring Republicans suggestions and solutions, and after the Democratic  majority in Congress couldn’t deliver on health care, Barack Obama has decided it’s time to talk to the Republicans.

Obama Invites GOP to “Bipartisan Health-Care Summit”
National Review

President Obama has invited Congressional Republicans to a half-day health-care summit, to be broadcast live from the Blair House later this month.

Here’s the kicker…

So I doubt even the most masterful of rhetorical performances from President Obama will change the prognosis of the bill — reconciliation or bust — but the very fact the White House is resorting to this strategem is a sign of just how few options they have left.

The object here is fairly obvious. Obama wants to characterize Republicans as obstructionists blocking a health care plan that is supposedly the right thing to do.

If Obama has his way, this will be a pseudo debate. Just as he retreat in Baltimore, Obama intends to dominate the discussion and hammer a disorganized Republican mob with no clear leader. What Republicans can do is give Obama another such opportunity. Republicans must point out that the President proposes and Congress disposes. It is the debate within Congress that needs to be televised, not Obama chastising Republicans for not giving him what he wants.

The GOP didn’t do any better when they had the majority under Bush.

You may now dry your tears and accept the realities of democracy.

Kerik, you miss the point. I’ll grant you that the Republicans lost their majority because of their ineffectiveness.

But, Obama and company purposely excluded Republicans from talks about health care and see where it got them.
