A Dark and Lonely Saturday

3 Apr

John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

What must it have been like in the finality of that moment for the followers of Jesus? All they had known and seen for three years had come to an end.

Consumed by his guilt, Judas took his own life.

Peter agonized over his denial of Christ.

And Mary, the Mother of Jesus, what could she be thinking? Of all the people who believed, she knew Jesus was who he said he was. She knew how she had become pregnant. But she stood there in her grief and silence.

They took his body and placed him in a tomb. Then they went home to mourn and in fear of what might happen next.

Sunday was coming, but were they ready to believe?
