Best known to television audiences as the Hillbilly Jed Clampett, Buddy Ebsen began his career as a dancer with MGM Studios. He was originally cast as the Tin Man in the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. When Ebsen nearly died because of aluminum dust used in his makeup, he was replaced with Jack Haley.

Ebsen returned to television in 1973 as Detective Barnaby Jones.
