The Obama camp bungles response to Palin pick

30 Aug

Barack Obama proved once again that he’s not ready to lead by issuing, then reissuing a statement regarding Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Obama camp hits, then praises McCain’s VP choice
Associated Press

Obama, who is eager to win over female voters who backed his rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in the primaries, blamed the mixed messages about McCain’s choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on campaign aides with a “hair trigger.”

Oh great.  He can’t even get his campaign staff in line.  Imagine this scenario:

It’s 3:00 a.m. and the White House Phone is ringing.

“Let’s not wake the President.  We’ll just go ahead and push the button because that’s what he’d want…”

Far fetched?  Sure.  But if the most scripted, most produced, most Britney-Spears-set-designed candidate in the history of this nation can’t control a simple campaign “hair trigger” response, then just what about him says he’s ready to lead?

The Obama Campaign’s First Impulse…was to attack Gov. Palin.

Upon further reflection, Sens. Obama and Biden issued a more carefully considered response…

Obama & Co. must take high road on Palin
Chicago Sun Times

I wanted to shout that advice to the Barack Obama campaign Friday, but somebody on the television was telling me it was already too late: Obama’s people had reacted initially to the news of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s candidacy for vice president by belittling her credentials.

McCain-Palin '08: Happy days ARE here again!!!

29 Aug

I hated not being able to blog about this until now.  But like much of the country, I’m elated with John McCain’s selection of Governor Sarah Palin to be the next Vice President of the United States.  She’s smart, she’s young, she’s conservative.

Congratulations on a most excellent choice Senator McCain.  And by the way, Happy Birthday!

The release and the announcement were masterful.  None of this “we’ll text you at 3:00 a.m.” silliness.  The McCain camp was able to keep the secret, and keep the media and blogs buzzing about the announcement.  Oh, and by the way, Obama gave a speech  yesterday.

Palin’s speech was strong and confident.  She brings to the Republican ticket executive experience that is sorely lacking on the other side of the aisle.  And she brings a record of accomplishment.

For the first time in a long time, I’m excited about this race.  I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a George Allen A-Team member from way back.  So after the leftist witch hunt of lies in 2006, I’ve been struggling for a candidate to support.

When it was clear that Senator McCain would be the nominee, at first I begrudgingly agreed to support him.  Then I changed my mind. Because reality is, there are a lot of areas where Senator McCain and I disagree.

But watching the brilliance of his campaign over the last three weeks, with the release of one of the best advertising campaigns I’ve ever seen, and now with the skillful, wise way he made his choice of a running mate has me excited for the first time since August of 2006.

Here’s what other folks are saying around The Jeffersoniad.

Statement from Congressman Eric Cantor:

“I am excited by John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential running mate.  Sarah brings a wealth of experience to the campaign and will pose a formidable challenge to the Democratic nominees.

“As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin is in a position to help articulate an all-encompassing, long-term energy strategy that will lower gas prices and create jobs, while protecting the environment. This will stand in stark contrast to the Obama / Biden team which opposes all efforts to reduce gas prices.

“Sarah Palin is a smart conservative women who  represents change.  Real change not the stale rhetoric coming from Obama.  Let the word go forth that the McCain / Palin team will fight for every vote, in every state, and I am confident we will be victorious in November.

“I  look forward to next week’s Republican Convention in Minnesota where John McCain, Sarah Palin and the rest of our Party will lay out our plan to defeat the recycled policies of the Democrats this November.  Please check my  blog often throughout the Convention as I will be posting breaking news and updates several times a day next week.”

Cantor and The Truth Squad
Redstate

Like all of us here, Congressman Cantor is acutely aware of the tension between disgruntled Hillary voters and the rest of the party, despite all the protestation otherwise. It is also clear that many Obama faithful believe the Clintons are deliberately drawing the spotlight from Senator Obama. Cantor noted that the 18 million votes Hillary received, compared to the 10,000 won by Biden, certainly would make any bitterness on the part of Hillary supporters understandable.

Obama fails his first text

22 Aug

How many thousands of people signed up to receive Obama’s text of his Vice President announcement?  How many of us have watched and listened today, all week in fact, wondering who he would pick.

And how many people now know that ABC News is reporting:  U.S. Secret Service on Way to Biden’s House; Kaine and Bayh Told Nope on Veep?

Yet still…no text message.

But, all the “It’s Biden” folks could still be wrong.  It could still be a hoax.  Either way Obama’s missed his media window for the weekend.

Unless of course, that’s what he wanted.  After all, one of the first rules in campaign PR is “release the bad news on Friday.”

Obama disses Virginia twice in one day

Obama Stops Advertising in Red Battleground States
FOXNews.com

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has put the brakes on ads that were running in seven states carried by the GOP in the 2004 presidential election, FOX News has learned.

Virginia is among them.

Along with the news that Tim Kaine will not, we repeat, will not, be Obama’s running mate [MSNBC] we have to wonder what two days in Virginia did to make Obama not like us.

Does this mean he’s really NOT going to wake every morning thinking about us?

Is it live? Or is it Photoshop?

22 Aug

Did Drudge fall for it? And try to take the rest of us along with him?

On closer examination it does look like a Photoshop.  The whites don’t match (don’t even go there).  And it’s not exactly Obama’s style.  Rumors elsewhere are saying it’s Biden.  That’s a step up in the excitement department.

*snort*  I can’t even type that with a straight face.

Meanwhile…Hillary doesn't even get to first base…

Hillary gets stiffed
Yahoo! News

The official also said Clinton never met with Obama’s vetting team of Eric Holder and Caroline Kennedy.

Now granted, Bill and Hillary are probably the most investigated people in the United States. But still, to not even meet with the team in a pretense that she was being considered?

While the Clintons never can say goodbye, for now it looks like it’s Farewell Hillary after all…

After all this…it's still Bayh?

Drudge seems to think the printing of a bumper sticker says so.  Kudos for scooping the silliness of text messaging.

Really, I’m disappointed.  All this hype and…that’s it?  No fireworks?

The way the Obama camp was playing this you would have thought it was Elvis.

Unless it’s yet another head fake.  Surely even his mediotic disciples are getting tired of this.
